Offering beautiful grounds with plenty to amaze and delight children of all ages, Gathering Place is certainly the most thoughtfully designed park in Tulsa, and has drawn national and international attention even before its opening.
“Our wish is for all Tulsans to enjoy this space,” the park’s website states, calling Gathering Place “A park that reflects the unique culture and spirit of our city. A park that will continue to inspire imagination. A park like none other.”
Renowned band “The Roots” will be headlining musical entertainment on the park’s opening day, playing at 5:00 pm. The Swon Brothers play the following day, Sept. 9, at 4:00 pm, and Brooklyn’s Los Hacheros will perform later in the week, on Sept. 13 at 7:30 pm, with Salsa dance lessons on the lawn at 6:30. A wide variety of local, national, and international acts will be performing at Gathering Place throughout the park’s first 100 days.
It’s estimated that up to 50,000 people could visit the park during opening weekend, and park officials are encouraging visitors to take advantage of shuttle service offered from several locations around town.
Free shuttles will be running throughout Saturday and Sunday from the parking lot behind Expo Hotel at the Tulsa County Fairgrounds, from OSU-Tulsa just north of downtown, and from the River Spirit Casino’s triangle lot.
And although you may be really eager to see the latest reason Tulsa is a great place to live, you might want to skip opening weekend and wait until the crowds subside a bit. Gathering Place is here to stay so your patience might be rewarded with smaller crowds and easier parking.
Gathering Place will be open daily from 9:00 am until 10:00 pm. The park is totally free of charge, with the exception of Gathering Place’s three restaurants. (La Semana)
