PSO Announces $50,000 Grant to TU
TULSA, OK – La Compañía de Servicios Públicos de Oklahoma (PSO) anunció la entrega de $50.000 a la Universidad de Tulsa en nombre de la American Electric Power Foundation para financiar la compra de nuevo equipamiento y tecnología del departamento de Ingeniería eléctrica y de sistemas (ECE).
La financiación servirá para mejorar los equipos del laboratorio de maquinaria eléctrica, iniciar un laboratorio de energía electrónica y desarrollar las modificaciones del espacio de laboratorio necesario para acomodar estas necesidades del futuro.
“Estoy muy contento de anunciar el desembarco de estos fondos que nos permitirán preparar a la próxima generación de ingenieros eléctricos para que puedan alcanzar los desafíos y las oportunidades de trabajar con una de las máquinas más grandes y más complejas del mundo , la grilla eléctrica”, dijo Peggy Summons, presidente y jefe operativo de la Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO), subsidiaria de la AEP. “Es vital que contemos con ingenieros súper especializados que nos permitan satisfacer las necesidades que está enfrentando esta industria y que sigan haciéndolo en el futuro, trabajando en pos de energías renovables, alternativas, celdas inteligentes y otras tecnologías transformadoras”.
Con sede en la Escuela de Ingenieria y Ciencias Naturales de la Universidad, el Departamento de ECE ofrece carreras en ingeniería electrónica y sistemas, hoy, tiene 106 alumnos de grado, 8 de posgrado y 9 alumnos de doctorado.

TULSA, OK – Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) has an- nounced a $50,000 grant to the University of Tulsa on behalf of the American Electric Power Foundation to help bring new state-of-theart equipment and technologies to the school’s Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department.
The grant will go toward updating the department’s Electric Machines Lab, initiating a Power Electronics Lab and supporting physical modifications of the lab space needed to accommodate these and future labs.
“I am pleased to announce this grant that will help prepare the next generation of electrical engineers to take on the challenges and opportunities of working with one of the largest, most complex machines in the world – the electricity grid,” said Peggy Simmons, president and chief operating officer for Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO), a subsidiary of AEP. “It’s vital to have highly specialized engineers working to meet the challenges our industry is facing – and will continue to face in the future – as we look more and more toward renewable and alternative energy, smart grids and other potentially transfor- mational technologies.”
Housed in the university’s College of Engineering and Natural Sciences, the ECE department offers degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. The department currently has 106 undergraduate, eight master’s and nine doctoral students.
