CORY BOOKER de campaña en Tulsa campaigns in Tulsa
Un segundo candidato presidencial importante estuvo en Tulsa la semana pasada, creando conciencia sobre su campaña mientras recaudaba los dólares necesarios para seguir difundiendo su mensaje en un campo altamente competitivo. Booker también asistió a una campaña de recaudación de fondos en el centro de Tulsa, y dijo a sus partidarios que es vital que el partido demócrata se unifique una vez que se elija a su candidato para que la visión del partido para un país fuerte e inclusivo pueda prevalecer en 2020. El senador dijo que los temas claves en su corazón y el centro de su campaña es fortalecer el Obamacare y encontrar una manera de detener la horrible violencia armada que golpea a la nación con demasiada frecuencia.

A second major presidential candidate was in Tulsa last week, raising awareness about his campaign while raising the dollars needed to keep spreading his message in a highly competitive field. Cory Booker, the United States Senator from the state of New Jersey, spent last Thursday in Tulsa, and like fellow-candidate Beto O’rourke two weeks earlier, paid homage to Tulsa’s historic Black Wall Street and mourned the victims of the 1921 Race Massacre that occurred there.
“Today, I was in Tulsa, Oklahoma visiting the community of Greenwood, an area formerly known as Black Wall Street that was destroyed nearly 100 years ago in one of the worst incidents of racial violence in our history,” Booker wrote later that day on Instagram. “Throughout my life I’ve heard stories about Greenwood and Black Wall Street and studied the history of this incredible community— but nothing could prepare me for today. As I walked down the streets, I wept.”
Booker tied the legacy of Greenwood to many of the tragic events seen today:
“White supremacy has always been a problem in our American story—if not always at the surface, then lurking not so far beneath it. Racist violence has always been part of the American story, and never more so than in times of transition and rapid social change. Greenwood is a living testimony to those truths. Today, at a time when hate crimes are on the rise we must remember the power of faith and recommit to fighting back against hate.”
Booker also attended a campaign fundraiser in midtown Tulsa, telling supporters that it’s vital that the Democratic Party unify once their candidate is chosen so that the party’s vision for a strong and inclusive country can prevail in 2020. The senator said issues key to his heart and at the center of his campaign are strengthening Obamacare and finding a way to stop the horrific gun violence that strikes the nation far too often.
Booker is one of ten candidates – along with O’rourke, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Julian Castro, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Andrew Yang, Pete Buttigieg, and Amy Klobuchar – who will take part in the next Democratic Presidential Debate on September 12. (La Semana)
