Disney bets on wrestling! Enlist Blue Demon Jr. series

The story of the fighter Blue Demon Jr. will be brought to the screen in serial format by Disney +, who wants to value the legacy of this lineage so representative of the Mexican, in the ring and in the cinema.

In the pilot chapter of this new production, the legacy of Blue Demon, one of the main historical figures of Wrestling in Mexico, will be explored through his adopted son, who continues in wrestling, Dan Carrillo Levy explained to Efe , one of the producers of the project.

“Being Mexican is in our DNA and we are proud that our first project revolves around Mexican wrestling. It will touch on issues that are known to the Latino community. We are also interested in children feeling identified, just as I saw the Blue Demon Jr.'s dad movies, “he added.

The plot of the series unfolds around a girl, Violet, who under the help of Blue Demon Jr, her uncle and a superhero known to many, is chosen by a magic mask to become a superheroine and continue the legacy of her family.

Regarding whether the reason for taking a girl in the main role is due to the tendencies of female empowerment, Carrillo Levy explained that it is a coincidence, since the project has been developed over ten years.

“It was not planned, it was to give it a new light. We liked playing with this new character and the idea of a niece of this age was attractive not to fall into cliché and present something that has not been seen. It is important to introduce a girl common, with their friendly relationships, with their parents and their uncle, “he said.

Likewise, Carrillo Levy emphasized that values, both for Disney and for producers, are quite important, so topics such as “family, honor and legacy, but especially what the mask means” will be explored.

Without being able to give specific details, especially around the characters that will accompany Blue and Violet, the producer said that surprises are cooked in the selection of heroes and villains.

“They will be surrounded by incredible characters, both on the side of the good and the bad. It will be a rainbow of races, colored, something fun and real. It is a world news, which is globalized,” he said.

In turn, and as has always been tradition in the world of Disney, music will play a crucial element in this project, whose release date is unknown, as well as the platform on which it will be broadcast.

“Music has always been something very important for Disney, it is one of the things that unites Latinos, as the series progresses they will be very impressed,” he concluded.
