Rony Flores and Jasón Calderón are two cousins who have given all for their school, and in their last year playing soccer for Rogers High School, they want to leave a legacy that is remembered by the next generations.
From the stands of the Moutaniers Stadium, younger brothers Emerson Flores and Eduardo Junior Ayala, see their role models to follow like every little brother, imagining someday to take spots on the field left by their brothers.
Flores and Calderón have been under the guidance of one of the pioneers of soccer in Rogers, Señor Barker. Jeff has more than two decades of experience and is part of the coaching staff for Rogers High School. Hundreds of players and students have passed through his classroom where he teaches Spanish, but these two players in particular have won his heart. “Jason and Rony have my respect as players and as human beings. They have a passion for soccer, which is necessary to succeed in this league. They are the foundation of the team, and they do it every day with the way they play and how they behave, ”said Jeff Barker when asked about Calderon and Flores.
The expectations for RHS are the same every year, to be able to win the state title. The last time that RHS won a State Title in the boys division was in 2007 when they defeated Har-ber 31. But in 2018 RHS was humiliated in the final against Northside 62. “We know that it will be a very difficult challenge to win the state championship because we have a very young team, but I am sure that once we achieve a perfect chemistry we will go far. With our determination and love for Rogers' jersey, nothing is impossible, ”added Rony Flores.
This last season for Jasón Calderón and is very special, Calderon can finally contribute to the team in a special way. “I’ve been injured in the last two seasons, and that kept me from starting in the varsity team. It also means that you have to give it all while enjoying and having the best memories. The team that won state was such as a talented team that worked hard and had been playing together for a long time since they were kids, that’s what this team is this year. We are hoping to get the same result at the end, ”concluded Calderón.
College is next for Jason Calderon and Rony Flores. Jason is planning on attending Oklahoma Wesleyan University were he hopes to earn his bachelor degree while playing soccer. Rony Flores is hoping to be able to play soccer somewhere in college, Flores will wait and see what happends in the next few months.
Rogers opened with defeat to Bryant by the minimum 10 difference. Rogers' next game will be a visitor against Van Buren. The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
