Tulsa Transit givingfree rides in April
TULSA, OK –Tulsa Transit will offer free fare to all passengers system-wide including Fixed route, Nightline, Sunday and Lift services, effective April 1 lasting throughout the month pending social distancing compliance.
The implementation of free fare is another way to ensure the safety of riders and employees. The continuation of this measure will depend upon the feasibility of riders respecting COVID-19 rules already in place such as the limitation of passengers per bus and keeping three to six feet of distance from others.
Fixed route riders will now board and de-board using the rear door of the bus to limit their interaction with drivers. Front door entry will be limited to those requiring the ramp.
This change also aims to assist those facing sudden economic hardship and provide ease of use for essential workers that rely on public transportation.
The fare-free period is not meant to encourage any additional ridership. Passengers should utilize transportation for essential trips only while following the Safer-athome guidelines in place for the City of Tulsa.
“Tulsa Transit realizes that many in the community rely on our services but we ask that trips be used for essential trips to work, medical appointments or the grocery store,” said Ted Rieck, Tulsa Transit General Manager.
Tulsa Transit also reminds riders during these challenging times to be patient and courteous with one another as well as follow the instructions of the driver when riding.
