Gathering Place hosts drive-thru back to school supply drive

-

TULSA, OK – Gathering Place partnered with Tulsa Police Department and Tulsa Community Foundation (TCF) to host a Back to School Supply Drive for Tulsa County elementary students. Individuals were able to drive-thru the Williams Lodge loop between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19 to safely and easily drop off school supply donations.

“Back to school in Tulsa looks a little different this year, but that doesn’t change the fact that students are still in need of the necessary school supplies,” says Tony Moore, Executive Director of Gathering Place. “Education is at the heart of the Park’s mission, and we are thrilled to partner with Tulsa Police Department and our friends at Supplied for Success to provide educational opportunities for Tulsa County children.”

All school supply donations will be given to the Tulsa Police Department Community Engagement unit to support their collaborative neighborhood engagement efforts this fall.

“The Tulsa Police Department greatly appreciates the support of the Gathering Place and their partnership with us in providing school supplies to children in our community,” said Lieutenant Jennifer Murphy, Tulsa Police Department.

Supplied for Success, administered by Tulsa Community Foundation, ensures that children start school with the materials they need to succeed and that economic inequality does not lead to inequality in the classroom. The program provides supplies to over 24,000 students at 51 elementary schools in Tulsa and Union school districts. In each school assisted, more than 75% of students qualify for the Free or Reduced-price Lunch program.

If you were unable to make it to the Gathering Place Supply Drive but would still like to support TCF’S Supplied for Success program, please consider making a monetary donation to Supplied for Success. Donations may be made online at https://tulsacf.org/?fund=51
