El video viral que celebra todas las culturas hispanas Dance video celebrates Latin cultures

En el mes que celebra la cultura hispana, las fundadoras del Consejo de las Artes de Oklahoma (HACO) decidieron hacer lo impensado, unir a los grupos de danza hispana de Oklahoma y hacer un video que difundiera y festejara el amor por la cultura Latina. El video apareció en las redes a mediados de septiembre y se convirtió rápidamente en un éxito viral.

Fueron tres las mujeres responsables de la viralización, Hilda de León Xavier, Marti Rickman y Yimma Gilma Kernes, que en una charla de amigas decidieron buscar la manera de que el Covid no interfiriera con el reconocimiento de las culturas latinoamericanas.

“Nosotros nos presentamos en las escuelas en el mes de la herencia hispana, y como no ibamos a poder bailar decidimos organizamos para dar a conocer nuestras danzas en las redes sociales. Estabamos desesperadas y tristes por no poder participar en ningun evento, asi que decidimos hacer algo especial para que los estudiantes de todos lados pudieran apreciarlo”, contó Hilda.

Y así nació Unidos por la misma pasión, una experiencia gastronómica y artística en la que participaron representantes de Estados Unidos, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Colombia, Panamá y República Dominicana, en promoción de la danza hispanoamericana.

Cada uno de los participantes del video representa grupos de danza que desde hace años forman parte del elenco estable de Oklahoma, y que en tiempos de Covid quisieron manifestar su presencia más que nunca.

“Queremos seguir teniendo presencia en nuestra sociedad y mostrar en cada oportunidad nuestro talento, cultura y tradiciones”, aseguró Marti Rickman.

“Unidos por la misma pasión, no fue solamente una reunión, sino la integración de los países a partir de una necesidad histórica, que como latinos nos obliga a dar a conocer nuestras tierras desde cultural, social y territorial. Este conocimiento debe ser transmitido a las nuevas generaciones, porque entendemos que con el pasar de los años, se irá proyectando en la educación de grandes y pequeños, y eso traerá un beneficio para todos”, comentó Gilma E. Kernes.

Estas tres incansables mujeres lograron lo imposible, vincular a los hermanos latinoamericanos por medio del arte, reivindicando la danza y los lazos fraternales, utilizando a las redes sociales como fuente de memoria activa de nuestra comunidad. Desde las artes esperan que sus proyectos se hagan realidad, y todos revaloricemos nuestros orígenes.

“Desde la HACO seguiremos ayudando a todos los países a promover sus culturas y realizar eventos para darse a conocer”, dijo Hilda, esperando que el Covid de tregua y la memoria perdure.

In the month that celebrates Hispanic heritage, the founders of the Oklahoma Council for the Arts (HACO) decided to do the unthinkable, unite Oklahoma's Hispanic dance groups and make a video that would spread and celebrate the love for Latin culture. The video appeared on social media in mid-september and quickly became a viral hit.

There were three women responsible for the viralization, Hilda de León Xavier, Marti Rickman and Yimma Gilma Kernes, who in a conversation with friends decided to find a way to ensure that the Covid-19 pandemic did not interfere with the recognition of Latin American cultures.

“We historically performed in schools during Hispanic Heritage Month, and since we weren’t going to be able to dance in person, we decided to publicize our dances on social media,” Hilda said. “We were desperate and sad that we couldn’t participate in any event, so we decided to do something special so that students everywhere could appreciate it.”.

And thus “United by the Same Passion” was born, an artistic experience in which representatives of the United States, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, and the Dominican Republic participated, promoting Latin American dance.

Each of the participants in the video represents dance groups that have been part of the cast in Oklahoma for years, and that in times of COVID wanted to express their presence more than ever.

“We want to continue to have a presence in our society and show our talent, culture and traditions at every opportunity,” said Marti Rickman.

“’United by the same passion,’ it was not only a phrase, but the integration of the countries based on a historical need, which as Latinos forces us to make our lands known from a cultural, social and territorial perspective,” Commented Gilma E. Kernes.

“This knowledge must be transmitted to the new generations, because we understand that as the years go by, it will be projected in the education of young and old, and that will bring a benefit to all.”

These three tireless women achieved the impossible, linking Latin American sisters through art, claiming dance and sororal ties, using social networks as a source of active memory for our community.

From the arts they hope that their projects come true, and we all revalue our origins.

“From HACO we will continue helping all countries to promote their cultures and hold events to make themselves known,” said Hilda, hoping that the memorable coming together born of Covid will endure.
