JAVIER MASCHERANO DEJA EL FÚTBOL PROFESIONAL Javier Mascherano announced his retirement from professional football
De manera sorpresiva, Javier Mascherano anunció que no jugará más al fútbol de manera profesional. A los 36 años y 17 de trayectoria futbolística oficial, habrá sido su último partido la derrota por 1-0 de Estudiantes de La Plata ante Argentinos Juniors, por la tercera fecha de la Copa de la Liga Profesional Argentina.
En conferencia de prensa, dio el anuncio el ex mediocampista central de la Selección: "Quiero anunciar que hoy me retiro del fútbol profesionalmente, quiero agradecer a este club que me dio la oportunidad que de terminar mi carrera en Argentina".
Además, 'Masche' reveló los motivos de su retiro: "Creo que es momento de terminar mi carrera por sensaciones que tengo, por un montón de cosas que me fueron pasando en estos meses que hacen que, a nivel personal, habiéndolo pensando durante todo este tiempo, lo más correcto es terminar hoy".
Mascherano puso fin a una ilustre carrera, donde a nivel de selección cosechó dos medallas de oro -Atenas 2004 y Beijing 2008-, y el subcampeonato en el Mundial de Brasil 2014. A nivel de clubes, ganó una Liga (Torneo Clausura) con River Plate, un Brasileirão con Corinthians y 19 títulos con el Fútbol Club Barcelona: cinco Ligas, Cinco Copas del Rey, tres Supercopa de España, dos Champions League, dos Supercopa de Europa y dos Mundial de Clubes.

“I want to announce that today I am retiring from soccer professionally, I want to thank this club that gave me the opportunity to finish my career in Argentina,” said the popular ‘Jefecito’ after losing to Bicho de La Paternal 1-0 in the Professional League Cup.
“It’s been a while for me,” he added. Javier Mascherano, who arrived at Estudiantes de La Plata in December 2019 after a long career in the following clubs: River Plate, Corinthians, West Ham, Liverpool, FC Barcelona and Hebei Fortune.
The runner-up in the world with the Argentine national team in 2014 did not have a good farewell, as he could not prevent a new defeat for Estudiantes de La Plata in Group 5 of the Professional League Cup, where Pincharrata placed last with a single point.
