Call to Hispanic Community to Donate Blood
TULSA, OK - The Oklahoma Blood Institute, along with Supermercados Morelos and Saint Thomas More Catholic Church will hold a blood drive event on Saturday, March 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Supermercados Morelos continues its actions in service of the community, this time donating 75 gift cards with a value of $10, and one of $100, which will be raffled to encourage the Hispanic community to donate blood at the March 6th event.
Minorities tend to be the communities that donate the least blood, resulting in a shortage of blood types that tend to be more present within each minority. For this reason, the Oklahoma Blood Institute is collaborating with local entities, such as Saint Thomas More Catholic Church, located at 2720 S 129th E Ave, Tulsa, OK, and Morelos Supermarkets.
“We hope that the incentives will encourage the community to donate their blood,” said Francisco Ibarra, CEO of Supermercado Morelos. “It is important that our community provides blood for the medical treatment of our patients.”
The Oklahoma Blood Institute depends 100% on constant donations from people in the community to provide hospitals and clinics. For this, they conduct donation events everywhere. Any organization can schedule an event by visiting the organization's website: https://obi.org/ or by calling 918-703-4800.
“Every two seconds someone needs blood, but less than ten percent of those eligible to donate blood do so. Oklahoma Blood Institute blood donors know that they are literally saving the lives of their friends, family, and co-workers, some of whom may have no idea that they will need blood in an urgent situation. A blood donation can save the lives of up to three people,” the organization states on its website.
Requirements to donate are to be 16 years old, and weigh at least 125 pounds.
