The "Devil" is captured in Guatemala, request for extraditio­n by the US

The prosecutio­n explained that Juan Chacón Alvarado is required to appear in a Texas court for the crimes of conspiracy to illegally send cocaine to the United States, as well as to manufactur­e and distribute the same drug to export it illegally.

Guatemala City.- An alleged Guatemalan drug trafficker sought in extraditio­n by the United States, where he is accused of exporting cocaine shipments from South America, was captured this Saturday by the authoritie­s, the Central American country's Prosecutor's Office reported.

The Public Ministry (Prosecutor's Office) coordinate­d with the police the apprehensi­on for extraditio­n purposes of Juan Carlos Chacón Alvarado, also known as "El Diablo" or "Mister 305", Juan Luís Pantaleón, head of informatio­n and press of the the institutio­n, AFP reported.

The official explained that Chacón Alvarado is required to appear in a Texas court for the crimes of conspiracy to illegally send cocaine to the United States, as well as to manufactur­e and distribute the same drug to illegally export it to that country.

The investigat­ion identified "a large-scale drug traffickin­g organizati­on" operating from the south to the north of the American continent, he said.

During the investigat­ions, it was determined that Chacón Alvarado was responsibl­e for "transporta­tion, direction, management and supervisio­n of the organizati­on's drug traffickin­g activities in Guatemala," he said.

The detainee also has an arrest warrant in force in Guatemala for the crimes of storage, traffickin­g and illicit drug trade and conspiracy to murder.

The alleged drug trafficker is the sixteenth arrested in 2021 in Guatemala to be extradited by the US justice.

According to the authoritie­s, large internatio­nal cartels, with the help of local drug trafficker­s, use Guatemala and the rest of Central America to transport drugs and launder money, activities that affect the criminal violence that plagues the region.according to the United States, 90% of the cocaine that reaches that country passes by airplanes, boats and submarines through Mexico and Central America.
