¡A votar! Ciudadanos mexicanos Mexicans, it’s time to vote!
El próximo 6 de Junio se celebran elecciones en el vecino pais de México, y los ciudadanos y ciudadanas mexicanos residentes en el extranjero podrán votar para las gobernaturas de Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, Nayarit, Querétaro, San Luis, Potosi y Zacatecas.
On June the 6th, Mexico celebrates federal elections and those citizens residing on foreign grounds will also be able to vote for the governors of Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, Nayarit, Querétaro, San Luis, Potosi and Zacatecas.
Además, se disputará la diputación de representación proporcional en Jalisco, y en la ciudad de México los paisanos podrán elegir por primera vez a su propio representante, el diputado migrante.
La Semana dialogó con El Consejero Electoral Mauricio Huesca del Instituto Electoral de la Ciudad de México, quien instó a todos los mejicanos a participar del proceso electoral y especialmente a los chilangos en esta nueva propuesta representativa.
“La Diputación Migrante es una figura de representación política para la comunidad chilanga que vive en el extranjero ante el congreso de la ciudad de México y es un medio para que los ciudadanos que viven en otro país participen en el diseño de programas políticos que los involucren”, explicó Huesca. “Es una figura de vital importancia porque los derechos de los chilangos en el exterior serán reconocidos por primera vez, pudiendo tener así incidencia directa en los asuntos políticos de su país”, agregó, reconociendo que el gobierno hasta el momento había ignorado la participación política de sus conciudadanos en el exterior.
Hasta el momento, son 11 los candidatos inscriptos en la contienda de la diputación migrante, y el próximo 28 de abril realizarán un debate por streaming que podrá verse siguiendo las redes sociales del consejo electoral, el sitio votochilango.mx y la cuenta de Facebook, Twitter e instagram de Voto Chilango. “Queremos que los ciudadanos se informen sobre
los cantidatos registrados para que todos puedan emitir un voto informado. Por eso, además, cada boleta va acompañada con un panfleto de información sobre las candidaturas y los candidatos”, explicó Huesca.
Todos los mexicanos con mayoría de edad cumplida - 18 años- que tengan vigente su credencial de voto pueden participar de la elección. “Hasta el momento hay inscriptas en el padrón 12.660 personas en el extranjero listas para votar. En California, Florida, Illinois y NY tuvimos muchas inscripciones, también en Madrid, Barcelona y Londres”, afirmó el consejero electoral.
La inscripción se hace directamente en el sitio del consejo electoral y consultando en la embajada, pero ya está cerrada para quienes no se anotaron antes del 21 de marzo. “Todos los mejicanos pueden votar, incluso quienes tengan doble o triple nacionalidad y residencia permanente en otro pais”, dijo Huesca.
“Votar es de vital importancia para castigar o premiar a los gobiernos de turno y amplificar la voz de todos los mexicanos”, especificó Huesca, instando a todos los paisanos a compromenterse con su derecho cívico. “El futuro dependerá de la participación política de la ciudadania”, dijo el consejero, recordando la importancia histórica de esta elección por el tamaño del padrón y la cantidad de cargos en juego.

Jalisco will also choose representatives and in Mexico City, for the first time, all paisanos will be able to vote for the migrant representative, a political figure intended to give voice to those that live abroad.
La Semana spoke with Mauricio Huesca from the electoral council of Mexico City, who called on all Mexican nationals currently in the USA to cast their ballots and exercise their rights, especially in the race for migrant representative.
“The migrant representative is a person that provides political representation to the chilango community that lives abroad in the legislature of the city of Mexico. It is a way for those to are not in Mexico to be a part of the design of political agendas that involve them,” said Huesca. “It is a key figure because for the first time in history the rights of the chilangos abroad will be acknowledged allowing them to have certain incidence in the affairs of our country.”
He added that so far, Mexican authorities had ignored the political participation of those abroad.
So far there are 11 candidates fighting for the migrant representation, and on April 28th they will face each other in a political debate that can be viewed on streaming by following the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts of votochilango.mx.
“We want our citizens to get informed before voting, to learn more about the candidates and their proposals. This is the reason why those voting by mail will receive a pamphlet containing information on each candidate and their main campaign goals,” explained Huesca.
All Mexicans over 18 with a valid and non-expired voting credential can participate in the elections.
“So far 12,660 Mexicans living abroad have decided to enroll in the electorates list. We had a huge turnout in California, Florida, Illinois and NY, also in Madrid, Barcelona and London,” stated the councilman.
To be able to cast the ballot it is imperative to register as a voter, something that can be done on the site of the national election institute or through the local embassy, but unfortunately registration closed on March 21st.
“All Mexicans enrolled can vote, even those that have double or triple citizenship and are permanently living in another country,” said Huesca.
“Voting is really important to punish or reward the current administration, it also amplifies the voice of all Mexicans,” reminded Huesca, encouraging all paisanos to accept their civic responsibilities.
“Our future depends on the political participation of our citizenship,” stated the councilman, highlighting the importance of this historic election in terms of the registration numbers and the diversity of the open candidacies.
If you have already registered as a voter, verify your inscription on the nominal list of electors residing abroad and vote virtually before June 6th, 6 p.m. or send the vote through postal courier to the INE before June 5th.
