Colombia opens the doors to Indian technology for vaccine production

-

NNew Delhi, Oct (EFE) .The vice president and foreign minister of Colombia, Marta Lucía Ramírez, bet this Saturday on the technology and development capacity of India for the construction of a vaccine production plan in the Latin American country.

“India has a lot of scientific and technological development and, above all, in the health sector,” Ramírez told Efe, so he believes that Colombian companies present in the Asian nation will be able to contribute to “producing vaccines in Colombia and developing in the future a joint investigation with India “.

The foreign minister, who is on an official visit to New Delhi, acknowledged that Colombia cannot respond to the high domestic demand for vaccines, so they wish “that this failure can be resolved through joint investigation, sharing the knowledge that India has. “, he remarked.

“There are many fields in which we believe that this cooperation can be of mutual benefit to generate employment and more economic growth and better health conditions for Colombians and the entire world,” said the vice president.

Indeed, India is known as “the world’s pharmacy” for its high drug production capacity, and during the current pandemic it is manufacturing several anticovid vaccines in its territory, such as the indigenous Covaxin, from the Indian

laboratory Bharat Biotech, and the Covishield formula by Astrazeneca.

The foreign minister also showed her interest in implementing green policies in Colombia, such as the production of electric vehicles, a transition from which she hopes “to see results, without a doubt, in the coming years.”

To achieve this objective, Ramírez held talks with the Indian group Tata, one of the most important multinationals in the Asian country, “to have the presence of Indian electric vehicles in Colombia both public and private,” he noted.

“For us it is very important that Indian companies know that Colombia has no restrictions on foreign investment in any sector and that we have very attractive conditions for investment,” he stressed.

In addition to scientific and technological matters, Colombia is also interested in strengthening relations with India to gain a presence in the Indo-pacific, considering that it may be “the gateway” to the region for the Latin American country.

As part of her three-day visit to New Delhi, the Colombian Foreign Minister met today with her Indian counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishanka, to seal a “deeper cooperation” between the two countries, with which they hope “that concrete plans for investment, with time to start seeing results. ” EFE
