El sindicato Iatse, que agrupa a técnicos audiovisuales, y los gigantes del cine y la televisión llegaron este sábado a un acuerdo para evitar que el lunes comience una huelga que amenazaba con parar la industria del entretenimiento en EE UU como protesta por las condiciones de trabajo del sector.

La mayoría de sus miembros encadena contratos temporales con los estudios, generalmente ligados a un proyecto concreto, y las condiciones se fijan según las directrices acordadas entre el sindicato y la Alianza de Productores de Cine y Televisión (AMPTP), la patronal que engloba a los estudios de cine y gigantes de la pequeña pantalla como Disney, Warner Bros., Netflix y Amazon.

Dentro de este nuevo acuerdo para los próximos tres años, los trabajadores han logrado, entre otros aspectos, aumentos de salarios para los peor pagados, mejoras en las condiciones laborales para las plataformas de streaming, o el incremento de las horas y días de descanso.

La huelga había sido aprobada el 4 de octubre por el 98% de los afiliados y, si hubiera seguido adelante, habría paralizado la mayoría de producciones en estados fundamentales para la industria audiovisual como California, Nueva York o Georgia.

Habría sido además la primera huelga en los más de 120 años de historia de este sindicato.

IATSE espera que este acuerdo, una vez ratificado por sus miembros, beneficie a unos 40.000 trabajadores en el cine y la televisión.
