COMISIÓN PRESENTA LOS PREMIOS TOMÁS RIVERA Tomás Rivera Latinx Awards Ceremony to be Held on May 12

Tulsa, OK – La Comisión sobre los Asuntos Hispanos/latinx de Tulsa anunciará a los ganadores de los Premios Tomás Rivera en reconocimiento a la excelencia en educación este jueves, 12 de mayo, a las 6 p.m. durante una ceremonia especial en el auditorio Aaronson de la biblioteca Central, 400 Civic Center, Tulsa.

La asistencia a la ceremonia es gratuita y está abierta al público en general. El tema del evento es “La educación te empodera” para enfatizar la importancia de la educación como paso fundamental hacia el éxito.

Los premios Tomás Rivera se otorgan a los líderes que tienen un impacto positivo en la comunidad latinx de Tulsa. Las categorías premiadas son las siguientes:

Héroes: Padres, voluntarios, maestros, investigadores en el campo de educación, tutores y mentores, personal administrativo y miembros de la ciudad quienes trabajan activamente apoyando a la comunidad latinx, en especial en el área de educación

Estudiantes: Aquellos que están cursando el penúltimo o último año de la preparatoria (high school) con un promedio (GPA) de 3.0 o mayor, que cuenten con un 90% de la asistencia escolar durante el primer semestre de su último año y que hayan demostrado tener un liderazgo excepcional en actividades extracurriculares tanto en la escuela como en la comunidad.

El Comité de la Educación de la Comisión sobre los Asuntos Hispanos/latinx de Tulsa selecciona los ganadores después de evaluar las nominaciones en línea.

TULSA, OK -- The Greater Tulsa Area Hispanic/latinx Affairs Commission has announced the scholars and community heroes of this year’s Tomás Rivera Latinx Excellence in Education Awards. The awards will be presented in a special ceremony on May 12 at 6 p.m. at Central Library Aaronson Auditorium, 400 Civic Center, Tulsa.

The event is free and open to the public. The event theme this year is “Education Empowers You” and will focus on the importance of education as a pillar to success and personal growth. The Tomás Rivera Latinx Excellence in Education Awards ceremony honors scholars and heroes in education who are making a positive impact on the Latinx community of Tulsa. The awarded categories are described below:

Heroes in Education: Outstanding citizens who work actively to support the Latinx community in education as a volunteer, parent, exceptional teacher, educational researcher, tutor and mentor, administrative staff and/or community member;

Scholars: Latinx students in their junior or senior year of high school with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, with 90-percent attendance in the first semester of their senior year and who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in extracurricular activities both in school and in the community.

The Greater Tulsa Area Hispanic/latinx Affairs Commission’s Education Committee selected the award winners from among open nominations received online.
