Buckingham hosts Summer Junior on July 20

Boys, girls ages 8-17 will compete for titles

BUCKINGHAM >> The first of two junior golf tournament­s held annually in Lake County takes place July 20 when the 28th annual Buckingham Summer Junior Championsh­ip takes place at Buckingham Golf and Country Club.

PGA Director of Golf Mark Wotherspoo­n and PGA head golf pro Ted Mattila invite all junior boys and girls ages 8-17 to participat­e in the event, which is sponsored by Buckingham Golf and Country Club, the Buckingham Niners, the Buckingham Tournament Players Club and the Buckingham Women’s Golf Club.

Golfers will be divided into flights based on age. The entry fee of $15 includes green fees, tee prizes, lunch and trophies.

Back to defend their titles won a year ago are Middletown High School’s Austin Pritchard and Kelseyvill­e High School’s Sarah Parlee.

Both also went on to win the Lake County Junior Golf Championsh­ip the following day at Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain.

The Lake County Junior, the second in the series of annual junior tournament­s, takes place July 22 at Adams Springs.
