Trojans, Mustangs post lopsided varsity football victories
LAth eOUNTY >> The Cloverdale High School defense had no answer for Lower Lake’s passing game or running attack nearly a year ago today when the Eagles ventured into Gordon Sadler Field only to get spanked 54-19 in a North Central League I varsity football game that was over by halftime.
With the start of the 2020-21 season delayed until mid-December because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lake County RecordBee is taking a look back at the players and the teams who were making headlines during the 201920 season.

The Eagles’ defense must have looked like a big hunk of Swiss cheese to Lower Lake quarterback Vann Wilkins, who carved up Cloverdale’s secondary to the tune of 365 yards passing and six touchdowns. Mixing things up with their running game, the Trojans moved the ball at will as running back Aries Brooke finished with 86 yards and two TDs.
Coming off a thrilling 29-21 victory the previous week against Fort Bragg, Lower Lake never looked back against Cloverdale after Brooke’s 7-yard touchdown run in the first quarter launched the Trojans toward a 41-7 halftime lead.
The game finished with a running clock after Lower Lake went ahead by 40 points early in the third quarter.
T he v ic tory pushed Lower Lake’s league record to 2-1 and its overall mark to 4-2.
Also on week three of the North Central League I schedule, Middletown routed Clear Lake 41-3 behind 230 yards rushing and two touchdowns from Nico Barrio. It was the third straight win over a Lake County opponent in as many weeks for the Mustangs, who would go on to capture the league title.
In other league action, Fort Bragg beat Kelseyville 25-20, dropping the Knights to 0-3 in league play despite a 189-yard rushing effort from Robert Chavez, who scored a pair of TDs.
