Lady Mustangs near another league crown
The Middletown Mustangs have dominated the North Central League I girls soccer ranks for more than a decade, overcoming coaching and lineup changes with ease all while placing a stranglehold on the competition. 2019 was no different.
Nearly a year ago today the Mustangs moved closer to a 12th straight league title with a 6-1 road victory over the Lower Lake Trojans. The win gave head coach Lamont Kucer’s squad an 11- 0 league mark en route to a 14- 0 finish. Middletown would also go on to win the North Coast Section Division 1 championship, the first in the school’s history and its second sectional title overall.
Until the COVID-19- delayed 2020-21 sports season starts in December, the Lake County Record-Bee will take a look back at the local sports happenings of a year ago and the teams and athletes who were making the headlines.

Girls soccer
Sophie Kucer scored twice for the Mustangs to help them build a 4- 0 lead. They also received some help from the Trojans, who accidentally scored one of the Middletown goals. Kucer also had two assists as the Mustangs improved to 15-3-1 overall.
Other Middletown goals went to Brie Alves, Zamora Rogers and Harper Moreno.
The Mustangs’ airtight defense got a big boost from backup keeper Emily Maccario, who replaced injured starter Leslie Chairez and went on to record 15 saves.
