Hope Rising partners with Clearlake Youth Center
CLEARLAKE >> The pandemic requiring schools to conduct distance learning and the stay-at-home orders can have lasting negative impacts on youth, including isolation, mental health care availability, increased risk of domestic violence and abuse, increased substance use, and depression. Hope Rising partnered with the Clearlake Youth Center and donated $5,000 in 2019-2020 for their Learning Hub to help educate students about substance misuse.
Many Clearlake and Lower Lake students without access to reliable WIFI go to the Clearlake Youth Center to complete distance learning while schools remain closed. The Youth Center offers a safe place for children to meet, receive information, education help, and access support.
“Hope Rising is an incredible
nonprofit that has contributed to the Clearlake Youth Center for two consecutive years,” said Jaylene Binstock, Youth Center Director. “Their donation will go towards the Learning Hub helping us meet our mission to reach our youth in Lake County by providing a safe place to explore opportunities that empower them, add value to their lives, develop character, create healthy relationships, and to equip them to reach their highest potential.”
Binstock used funds from the grant to create a video for elementary school students titled “5 Pieces of Advice”. The video encourages youth to say no to drugs and tobacco and create a safe group of friends. Binstock distributed the footage to teachers to share on their virtual learning platforms. https://www.powtoon.com/w/clOfIhhl1aS/1/m
Hope Rising’s SafeRx work prioritizing and addressing high-risk youth in Lake County and their team of AmeriCorps VISTAS made significant headway in drug prevention education in Lake County. “We want to congratulate Hope Rising on their success,” said Binstock. “We look forward to their efforts and partnership in helping the youth for years to come.”
