President Dutcher’s message: It’s a great time to get outside

- Bobby Dutcher is president of the the Lake County Chamber of Commerce for 2020-2023. A life long County resident, he retired from timber management in 2002 and became a licensed real estate broker. He is a realtor at Wine Country Land & Ranches.

The end of March gave us some gorgeous weather. The hills are all green, wildflowers blooming everywhere, Lake County is just spectacular this time of year. Great time to get outside and take advantage of the unlimited options we have for activities. Started riding my bike again after 30+ years, and every time I ride through Scotts Valley I pass other riders. Even on week days. The trail heads on Boggs Mountain, Konocti, and Glen Eden are also used daily. If you have never been to one of these you should definitely see for yourself what all of the fuss is about.

The Clear Lake Team Bass Tournament this year turned out some excellent results. The record for the biggest bass weighed in was broken by a 12.79 pound lunker. That one fish would win tournaments for a 5 fish bag at some lakes! Each day bags were weighed in over 32 pounds. That is almost unheard of anywhere else. Checking recent results at tournaments in Missouri, Alabama, and Wisconsin, 21 pounds for a 5 fish bag will win tournaments there. Barely finish in the money here. Clear Lakes reputation as the best bass fishing lake in the U.S. is definitely well deserved. The fish that were weighed in looked great. Really bright and clean, the quality of the habitat here shows in the appearance of the fish living in the lake.

Lake County has moved into a less restrictive Tier now, allowing restaurants to allow limited indoor seating. The Lake County Chamber of Commerce and Certified Tourism Ambassador program are teaming up to feature Dine Out Lake County. On our websites, you can just click on the link to find participating restaurants. We feature a different region of the County each week. Our local restaurants have really struggled since the pandemic began. Now that restrictions are easing up, please help these businesses out. Give yourself a night off from cooking and try some different restaurants. You might find a new place you didn’t know of from our site, so go give them a chance. If you are a restaurant owner you can participate for free. Just open the link and download your info, only takes a couple of minutes.

The sooner we all get vaccinated the sooner life gets back to normal, so be sure to do that when you are eligible. I have to admit I kind of liked not being able to get the vaccine. Been a long time since there was something I was too young to do! Starting this month, it’s no longer 65+ so I have done my part. It took me less than five minutes to sign up for the first shot, I got vaccinated on Monday. So there are my suggestions for everyone in April. Go for a hike every week, dine out twice a week, sign up for the vaccine if you haven’t done so already, and go catch some bass!
