Friends of the Lake County Library observe ‘Giving Tuesday’
The Friends of the Lake County Library is observing “Giving Tuesday” in a rather unique way. “Giving Tuesday” was created in 2012 and is commonly observed on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It is a global program that encourages people to give to groups that make our world a better place and many of these groups reach out to supporters at this time.
The Friends organization provides financial donations that help support the programming at the library and help add books and other materials to the library collection. While the Library is supported by local property taxes, these don’t always stretch far enough to provide everything needed to support the public. The money to make donations comes from membership dues, grants, donations to the Friends and the sale of donated books to the public.
Each branch of the library has a selection of used books available to purchase for a very reasonable price: one dollar for a hardback and 50 cents for a paperback with even lower prices for children’s books. So instead of requesting donations, the Friends of the Library invites you to visit your local branch and check out the selection. You may find something for yourself or a holiday gift for someone special. Of course if you are inspired to make a monetary donation to the Friends or to become a member, that is always appreciated too! In addition, donations of books in very good condition are accepted at each branch. Our county library system has done an amazing job of providing library service during this past challenging year. Let’s say thank you by providing the support that makes such a difference in what they can do.
For more information about the Friends, to make a donation or become a member visit their website at friendsofthelakecountylibrary.org or visit your local branch. Monthly business meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of the month at the Lakeport branch at 10am (no meeting in December). Guests and newcomers are always welcome.
