Cards fall 64-30 to Wildcats

Cougars third at Potter, Knights, Trojans lose

Ukiah’s full-court press took the Clear Lake Cardinals out of their offense from the start as the Wildcats rolled to a 64-30 win in the girls consolatio­n championsh­ip game of the Redwood Empire Invitation­al Basketball Tournament on Saturday in Healdsburg.

“We had a lot of turnovers,” Clear Lake head coach Phil Psalmonds said. “We tried to press them back and that led to a lot of transition baskets (for the Wildcats).”

Ukiah had a 17-5 lead after one quarter and continued to pull away as the game progressed. It was 36-18 at halftime and 56-23 through three quarters.

Montana Wells led the Cardinals (3-4) with 11 points and AllTournam­ent selection Sydney Howe added seven more. Abby Mertle had five points.

Clear Lake opens its North Central League I schedule Tuesday at home against Willits.

Fortuna 60, Kelseyvill­e 25

At Healdsburg, the Fortuna Huskies defeated the Kelseyvill­e Knights in the seventh-place game of the Redwood Empire Invitation­al.

All-Tournament selection Larue Furlani scored 12 points to lead the Knights (0-4), who trailed 30-15 at halftime. Makaylah Meyer added six points.

Kelseyvill­e travels to Lower Lake for a North Central League I game on Tuesday before returning home Thursday for its 6 p.m. opener in the Stokes Tournament.

Paradise 48, Lower Lake 41

At Durham, Paradise defeated Lower Lake in the seventh-place game of the Durham Tournament, dropping the Trojans to 0-6 on the season.

“We’re in these games, but we’re so beat up right now,” Lower Lake head coach Shannon Tubbs said of multiple injuries that have slowed the Trojans all season. “Once I get healthy we’re going to be OK.”
