Knights strike early in 7-0 win over St. Vincent

-

The sun was shining bright Saturday and so were the Kelseyville Knights, 7-0 winners over the St. Vincent Mustangs in nonleague varsity boys soccer action at Kelseyville High School.

Two days after beating St. Vincent 3-1 in Petaluma, the Knights (5-3) wasted absolutely no time putting their rematch with the Mustangs away early as Jovan Pantaleon scored in the fourth minute followed by an Angel Garcia goal in the sixth minute to make it 2-0.

Pantaleon would go on to score twice as would Aiden Rivas. The Knights had a 4-0 lead by halftime and continued to add to it in the second half. St. Vincent's only shot on goal was a penalty kick that backup keeper Diego Serrato blocked with a dive to his right late in the second half.

“It was a good game,” Kelseyville head coach KC White said. “St. Vincent suited up only 11 players, so we felt like if we could pass the ball we could wear them down, and we did it.”

Diego Rico and Ricardo Garcia also scored for the Knights. Angel Garcia had two assists while Pantaleon, Rico, Ricardo Garcia, Abraham Rico and Cesar Gonzales had one each.

While the Knights rotated in reserves all game, one player — Tony Rivas — played the entire 80 minutes at the centerback position.

“Everyone else got a break, not him,” White said. “He was doing a good job locking it down for us on the back line.”

Kelseyville travels to Cloverdale for a North Central League I game Tuesday at 4 p.m. with the varsity girls to follow at 5:30 p.m. On Thursday, Kelseyville's varsity boys are home to play Redwood Collegiate Academy in a non-league game at 5:30 p.m. The Knights' seniors will be honored before the team's final home game.
