Iguodala’s aching back among Warriors’ woes
Swingman gets treatment, says he‘ll be on court
OAKLAND, Calif. — Golden State Warriors swingman Andre Iguodala said Saturday he’s getting treatment “around the clock” to get his stiff back ready for Game 7 of the NBA Finals on Sunday at Oracle Arena.
“The training staff has been doing a hell of a job, just making sure I’m good,” he said.
Iguodala looked like a geriatric at times during the Game 6 loss Thursday in Cleveland. He twice went to the locker room for treatment.
Iguodala didn’t speak after the game and said Saturday his back first stiffened up on the Warriors’ flight to Cleveland. He figures it’s a cumulative effect from all the travel and fatigue of the past few weeks.
“It kind of just popped up,” Iguodala said. “A long flight, and bed, and fatigue, been playing a lot of minutes lately. Just a perfect storm, but glad we caught it early as opposed to having it in a Game 7.”
Iguodala said he’ll “be ready to go full strength tomorrow” regardless of how he feels, acknowledging he won’t let any injury be an excuse.
The two days off between the games should help, and Iguodala said he was able to do a mix of some on-court work Saturday, along with a healthy dose of treatment, but did not participate in practice. He plans to spend the 24 hours leading up to the game getting more work on his back.
CURRY RESPONSE — Stephen Curry delivered the best response to the swirling chatter after wife Ayesha’s recent Twitter flap.
“I may have to cut the Wi-Fi off at my house,” Curry said jokingly Saturday.
Ayesha Curry drew plenty of headlines after the Warriors’ Game 6 loss at Cleveland when she let out her frustration and accused the NBA of rigging the finals games “for money or ratings.”
She later deleted the tweet and apologized, but the comments haven’t been forgotten.
As for the situation, Stephen Curry said: “There’s nothing really that’s going to distract me from what’s happening on the court. You’re going to get asked about it, and it’s between me and Ayesha, the conversations about what happened.
“Other than that, it doesn’t take any spotlight off of what my job is on the floor and what these next 48 minutes are going to be like in Game 7, so that’s all I’m worried about.”
