Martin, No. 18 Butler hold off No. 9 Indiana

INDIANAPOL­IS — Kelan Martin scored 28 points as No. 18 Butler held off No. 9 Indiana’s late charge for an 83-78 victory Saturday in the Crossroads Classic.

Kamar Baldwin scored a season-high 14 points for Butler (10-1), which has upset the Hoosiers (8-2) twice in their past three meetings.

James Blackmon Jr. scored 16 of his 26 points in the second half for Indiana, which cut its 11-point deficit with 8:10 left to 79-77 on Blackmon’s 3-pointer with 38.7 seconds to go.

No. 3 Kansas 89, Davidson 71 — At Kansas City, Mo., Josh Jackson and Frank Mason III scored 18 points apiece for the Jayhawks (10-1), who overcame Peyton Aldridge’s 22 points to down the Wildcats (5-4).

No. 4 Baylor 82, Jackson State 57 — At Fort Hood, Texas, Al Freeman hit five 3-pointers and totaled 19 points for the Bears (10-0), who routed the Tigers (3-8) at the nation’s largest Army post.

No. 10 Creighton 66, Oral Roberts 65— At Omaha, Neb., Marcus Foster scored 22 points for the Bluejays (11-0), who trailed by five with 6:08 left before rallying past the Golden Eagles (2-10).

No. 11 Louisville 87, Eastern Kentucky 56 — At Louisville, Ky., Donovan Mitchell scored 15 points for the Cardinals (10-1), who closed the first half on a 20-0 run and held the Colonels (6-6) to fewer than 20 points until 3:21 had elapsed in the second half.

No. 12 West Virginia 112, Missouri-Kansas City 67 — At Morgantown, W.Va., Bob Huggins became the 10th Division I men’s coach to reach 800 wins as the Mountainee­rs (9-1) had seven double-figure scorers to overwhelm the Kangaroos (7-6).

No. 13 Virginia 79, Robert Morris 39 — At Charlottes­ville, Va., Devon Hall and Kyle Guy scored 13 points each for the Cavaliers (9-1), who went on a 38-8 run spanning halftime to blitz the Colonials (3-9).

No. 15 Purdue 86, No. 21 Notre Dame 81 — At Indianapol­is, Caleb Swanigan had 26 points and 10 rebounds for the Boilermake­rs (9-2), who downed the Fighting Irish (9-2) for their first win in the Crossroads Classic since it began six years ago.

No. 16 South Carolina 77, South Florida 66 — At Tampa, Fla., P.J. Dozier scored 11 of his 23 points in the closing minutes to power the Gamecocks (9-1) past the Bulls (5-4).

No. 17 Xavier 69, Wake Forest 65 — At Cincinnati, Trevon Bluiett scored 20 points, including three free throws in the final 19 seconds, to help the Musketeers (9-2) hold off the Demon Deacons (8-3).

No. 19 Arizona 67, Texas A&M 63 — At Houston, Dusan Ristic scored 18 points for the Wildcats (10-2), who withstood Tyler Davis’ 23-point, 10-rebound effort to edge the Aggies (7-3).

No. 23 Florida State 83, Manhattan 67 — At Sunrise, Fla., Dwayne Bacon scored 16 points for the Seminoles (11-1), who had a 36-23 edge in rebounds over the Jaspers (3-8) in the Orange Bowl Classic opener.

No. 24 Southern California 82, Troy 77 — At Los Angeles, Jordan McLaughlin scored 19 points, including a go-ahead floater in the lane with 48 seconds left, as USC (10-0) rallied past Troy (6-5).

No. 25 Cincinnati 119, Fairleigh Dickinson 68 — At Cincinnati, Kevin Johnson scored 18 points for the Bearcats (9-2), who blasted the Knights (2-9) in the highest-scoring game of Mick Cronin’s 11-year coaching career.

Kansas State 89, Colorado State 70 — At Denver, D.J. Johnson had 19 points to lead six double-figure scorers for the Wildcats (10-1), who overcame Prentiss Nixon’s 30 points to upend the Rams (8-3).

Fresno State 70, Pacific 68, OT — At Stockton, Calif., Paul Watson hit two free throws with 29.3 seconds left in overtime and totaled 18 points to lift the Bulldogs (8-3) past the Tigers (4-7).

Wyoming 97, Cornell 78 — At Laramie, Wyo., Hayden Dalton scored 21 of his 27 points in the first half and totaled 11 rebounds for the Cowboys (8-2) in their first meeting with the Big Red (2-6).

New Mexico 83, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 43— At Albuquerqu­e, N.M., Tim Williams scored 19 points for the Lobos (7-4), who held the Golden Lions (111) to 3-for-24 shooting in the first half.
