Balanced Grizzlies topple Spurs, win fourth straight

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Mike Conley had 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists as the Memphis Grizzlies extended their win streak to four with a 104-96 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday.

Memphis led 89-86 with 5:45 left and then went on a 9-1 rally to match its biggest advantage of the game at 98-87 on a three-point play by Marc Gasol with 2:30 to go.

Not long afterward, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich sent in his reserves.

Zach Randolph had 18 points, Gasol 16 points and seven assists and JaMychal Green 13 points for Memphis.

Kawhi Leonard led the Spurs with 22 points, and LaMarcus Aldridge had 21 points and nine rebounds. Jonathon Simmons scored 14 as San Antonio lost its second straight.

The Spurs struggled early from outside the arc and finished 9 of 28 on 3-point attempts.

Through three quarters, the game featured six ties and 15 lead changes.

The Grizzlies pushed their advantage to nine points on two occasions early in the fourth, but San Antonio stayed close with 3-pointers from Simmons, Leonard and Davis Bertans.

Memphis started its final spurt with three free throws from Conley, who then made a 3 with about four minutes left.

The Grizzlies built an early 11-point lead as the Spurs struggled shooting in the opening quarter. San Antonio ran off nine straight points to tie it, and the game settled into a close one.

Memphis carried a 44-43 lead into halftime as Vince Carter had 10 points. Leonard led the Spurs with 11.

Clippers 108, Cavaliers 78 — At Los Angeles, Blake Griffin scored 23 points for Los Angeles, which took advantage of Cleveland’s decision to rest LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love.

Warriors 117, Bucks 92 — At Oakland, Calif., Stephen Curry hit six 3-pointers and totaled 28 points for Golden State, which won its third straight after a three-game slide.

Bulls 95, Jazz 86 — At Chicago, Jimmy Butler scored 23 points and Bobby Portis 22 for Chicago, which swept its season series from Utah for the first time since 2009-10.

Trail Blazers 113, Hawks 97 — At Atlanta, Damian Lillard scored 27 points for Portland, which never trailed in its seventh win in nine games.

Hornets 98, Wizards 93 — At Charlotte, N.C., Cody Zeller scored 19 points for Charlotte, which held Washington to 37-percent shooting.
