Ex-tight end Heap hits, kills daughter in driveway accident
Former Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals tight end Todd Heap accidentally struck and killed his 3-year-old daughter while moving a truck in the driveway at his Mesa, Arizona, home.
The Mesa Police Department responded to the accident at 3:45 p.m. Friday. Officers were told the girl was on the driveway when her father moved the truck forward and hit her.
Police said the girl was taken to a local hospital, where she died. Impairment does not appear to be a factor, police said.
Heap, 37, a first-round draft pick in 2001, played 10 seasons with the Ravens and was selected to two Pro Bowls.
Steelers: Wide receiver Martavis Bryant met with the NFL’s Management Council in New York as part of his efforts for reinstatement after being suspended for the 2016 season for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. Bryant, 25, also was suspended for four games in 2015.
Bills: Buffalo still is deciding whether to pick up the fifth-year option on wide receiver Sammy Watkins’ rookie contract. Watkins, 23, drafted fourth overall in 2014, missed half of last season with a foot injury and had two surgeries on his left foot.
Bears: Chicago re-signed linebacker Sam Acho, 28, a six-year NFL veteran, to a one-year contract.
