Ex-South Carolina RB facing eight-year jail term for drugs

Former South Carolina running back Demetris Summers is facing eight years in prison for making and distributi­ng crack cocaine.

Summers, 33, pleaded guilty Friday in Lexington, South Carolina, after undercover agents made several purchases of crack cocaine from him.

Summers set national high school rushing records before joining the Gamecocks in 2003. He was kicked off the team two years later for testing positive for drugs and had a stint with the Dallas Cowboys in training camp in 2006.

Florida: Center T.J. McCoy is hospitaliz­ed after being hit by a suspected drunken driver. McCoy and his girlfriend were on a scooter near campus around 2 a.m. Friday when they were struck by a car, Gainesvill­e police said. Samantha Meldrem, 22, was arrested after hitting the scooter and fleeing the scene.
