Gorman guard Popoola signs to play basketball with Utah

- From staff and wire reports

Bishop Gorman senior guard Christian Popoola signed a letter of intent Saturday with Utah, the school announced.

The 6-foot-4-inch Popoola was a first-team all-Northwest League selection and a secondteam all-state pick as a senior. He averaged 15.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists to help Gorman win its sixth straight state title.

Popoola, who played at Lone Peak High in Utah as a sophomore, previously committed to Brigham Young but did not sign with the Cougars during the early signing period.

Tennis: At Constanta, Romania, Romania Fed Cup captain Ilie Nastase, 70, was thrown out of the playoff against Britain after abusing players and the umpire. He also publicly hurled insults at a British journalist, a day after making racially offensive comments about Serena Williams’ pregnancy.

Soccer: At Lisbon, Portugal, a 41-year-old Fliorentia fan, Marco Fincini, was struck by a car and killed Saturday when trying to escape fighting between Sporting Lisbon and Benfica supporters ahead of a match between the teams.
