Rising Star technology
The radio-frequency identification wristbands aren’t the only technology that will have kids going to sports camp at Rising Star saying, “Wow!”
When “The Barn” fieldhouse opens this week, it will have strategically mounted cameras that will present live internet feeds of soccer, basketball or volleyball games.
“If a grandma in New Hampshire wants to watch her grandson play during a camp, all she has to do is watch the live feed online,” said Andre Carrier, president and chief operating officer of the Rising Star Sports Ranch Resort in Mesquite. No room service? No problem. Next to a small convenience store near the front desk at the resort is a docking station for “Champ,” a robot that can be dispatched by campers in their rooms to deliver snacks and Gatorade.
Let’s face it, 12 campers in a bunkhouse can result in a little rambunctious behavior at lights-out time.
If guests at Rising Star are hearing a little too much noise in the hall, they can call upon a remote-patrol robot docked on each of the four floors, a first for a resort in Nevada.
A dispatched robot arrives at the door of the offending noise and produces a simulated knocking on the door.
“Kids of that age think robots are cool,” Carrier said, “but for us, it’s all about safety and security.
“To be truthful, some kids are so stunned at seeing a robot at their door that they’re actually a lot more polite to them than they are an adult.”
