GEORGE JARAMILLO
He touched many lives. A 76-year resident of Las Vegas and landscape pioneer in our valley – George Jaramillo – passed peacefully in his sleep Monday October 16, 2017. George was the son of Abel and Louisa Jaramillo and brother to Rosalind (Ravetti), Lucille (Apodaca), Priscilla (Simpson), Earl, Joseph, and Raymond. He and his wife, Jenny Lou (McAfferty) were married in 1952 in Las Vegas and were the parents to Tina (Farina), Kimberly (Shah), Greg, and Paul. Their 9 grandchildren: Christopher, James, Kishore, Tyler, Nisha, Kevin, Evgeny (Chernovalov), David, and Katya adored their “Poppie” and enjoyed sitting for hours listening to his great life stories and words of wisdom. George graduated from Las Vegas High School and attained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Woodbury University in Los Angeles. After serving his country in the U.S. Army (1952-1954), George returned to Las Vegas and shortly afterwards joined his father, Abe Jaramillo, in the family business, Las Vegas Fertilizer Co. Inc.—a wholesale distributor of lawn and garden products that sold to retailers, golf courses, municipalities, federal agencies, and contractors in 6 western states. He was President of the National Lawn and Garden Association and was a member of the UNLV Foundation as well as a host of other organizations and associations in Las Vegas. He loved playing golf and held memberships at the Broadmoor Golf Club in Colorado Springs, the Las Vegas Country Club and the Desert Inn Country Club, where he served as President of its Board of Directors. He was a Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus and a parishioner of St. Viator Catholic Church. George was born March 29, 1931 and lived 86 wonderful years. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 28, at St. Viator Catholic Church, 2461 E Flamingo Road, Las Vegas.
