Lewis Herbert Shupe Jr., 74, of Las Vegas, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2017, while in the company of his loving family. Lewis was born November 8, 1942, to Ruth Schlienger and Lewis Shupe Sr., in Pittsburgh, Pa. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley; sons, Rodney and Nat and his wife, Julia; sisters, Janis and Linda; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Lewis was a proud father, loving husband and Honorable United States Air Force Veteran. He graduated as valedictor­ian and basketball star from Basic High School in Henderson, in 1960, then attended Stanford University, where, in 1964, he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematic­s. He later obtained his Master’s Degree at the University of Southern California in 1966. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and became a Captain at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He married Joeann Cothern in 1969, adopted her son, Rodney, and moved to Atlanta, Ga., where they later welcomed son, Nat. Lewis was an accomplish­ed computer analyst and entreprene­ur of several self-owned business ventures. He retired at the age of 50 to follow many personal passions. An accomplish­ed golfer, he won the SNGA 2004 Player of the Year award, Senior Division, authored two books entitled, “Presidenti­al Diary,” and “Presidenti­al Diary II,” and founded and operated the US Freedom Army, a political organizati­on. Lewis was a mentor to his family and an inspiratio­n to many others. He will remain in our hearts forever. Service will be at 20 p.m. Saturday, November 4, at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., Las Vegas, NV 89101. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
