ALFRED (DENNY) D RANSEL

The family of Alfred "Denny" Ransel are saddened to announce his passing on Oct. 19, 2017, after a brief illness. He was 70 years old. Denny was born on April 10, 1947, in Latrobe, Pennsylvan­ia, to Alfred and Margaret (Peg) Ransel. He attended multiple schools as a result of his father's U.S. Air Force career. Assignment­s included Delaware, Ohio, Montana, North Dakota, Arizona and Japan. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administra­tion, he entered the Air Force in October, 1969. He received his commission through the ROTC program. Upon retirement, Denny achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel. In 1972, Lt. Col. Ransel went to Takhli Air Base, Thailand, where he served one year in the Vietnam war effort. After transferri­ng to Robins AFB, Georgia, as a recruiter, he met his future wife, Sandra, and her son, Hugh. After 6 weeks of courtship, they decided to get married on July 10, 1976. Also that year, he was reassigned to Aviano Air Base, Italy. While at Aviano, he earned a Masters Degree in Management. Their son, Christophe­r, was born on June 14, 1979. He returned to the U.S. in 1980, assigned to Mountain Home AFB, Idaho. His next assignment sent him back to Italy in 1985; this time to Naples and a NATO logistics staff position. In 1988, He was assigned to Tinker AFB, Oklahoma City, OK until his retirement on January 31, 1993. His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritoriou­s Service Medal, Meritoriou­s Service Medal and Air Force Commendati­on Medal. Upon retirement, the family moved to Las Vegas where Sandra began making use of her PhD., with the Clark County School District, to eventually become Principal of Desert Rose Adult High School until her retirement in 2015. Denny began a second career with Clark County in the Air Quality Division. He retired from Clark County in 2014. Since his second retirement he had time to pursue lifelong hobbies of baseball, football, golf and traveling with Sandra. Travel highlights included Alaska, New York City, Bermuda, California and Hawaii. Denny Ransel will be remembered by family and friends for his commitment to his family, the U.S. Air Force and the communitie­s where he lived and worked. He was a remarkable man, kind and loving and capable. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sandra, his motherin-law, Virginia Wells; his sons Hugh and Chris(Beth); granddaugh­ters Stella and Harper; his brother, Seb Ransel ; his cousins Greg, Marian and Judy Dulovich; and extended family living in Colorado, Wisconsin and Illinois. Services held November 9 12:40 pm at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City, NV
