Mary Jo (Gutierrez) Sugden, 89, passed away November 23, 2017, with her family at her side. She was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Mary Jo attended Loretto Academy in Colorado. Mary Jo worked at Los Alamos New Mexico, where she met and married James A. Sugden, Chief of Communicat­ions of the Atomic Energy Commission. She also worked in the Social Security offices in Albuquerqu­e, New Mexico. She later was a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Albuquerqu­e. She and Jim made Las Vegas their family home December 26, 1961. Mary Jo was a secretary at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, a bookkeeper at St. Viator and was a Developmen­t Manager at Bishop Gorman High School. She was a volunteer at St. Joseph’s School and Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas. Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Grace Gutierrez of Santa Fe, New Mexico; husband, Jim; and sister, Caroline. She is survived by her sister, Jean of Santa Fe, New Mexico; children, Alex, Mark, Terese and Thomas; grandchild­ren, Jeff, Chris, Matt, Sabrina Marie and Edie; great-grandchild­ren, Austin, Jack, Madison, Keagan, Kynsleigh, Emma and Ethan; and daughters-in-law, Pam, Tricia, Katherine, Amy, and Sioux. Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 7, at St. Viator Church, 2461 E. Flamingo Road. Reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Carmelite Monastery in Santa Fe, New Mexico or Nathan Adelson Hospice.
