Kings slip past Canucks

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Defenseman Drew Doughty scored 6:49 into the third period to break a tie as the Los Angeles Kings beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 Saturday to end a two-game skid.

Tyler Toffoli had a goal and two assists for the Kings, and Marian Gaborik added a goal and an assist. Kyle Clifford also scored, and Trevor Lewis had two assists for Los Angeles, which is 3-3-2 in its past eight games.

Nic Dowd, Nikolay Goldobin and Troy Stecher scored for the Canucks, and Ben Hutton had two assists.

Vancouver goaltender Jacob Markstrom made 32 saves. Kings goalie Jonathan Quick stopped 22 shots.

At Washington, Nicklas Backstrom and John Carlson each had a goal and two

assists, and Alex Ovechkin had three assists in Washington’s eighth straight home win.

At Sunrise, Fla., James Reimer had 37 saves in his second shutout in three games, and Connor Brickley had a goal and an assist.

At Ottawa, Ontario, Tuukka Rask stopped 25 shots in his 40th shutout and second this season, and Ryan Spooner scored twice.

At Nashville, Tenn., Juuse Saros had 29 saves in his second shutout of the season, and P.K. Subban had a goal and an assist.

At St. Louis, Scottie Upshall scored the tiebreakin­g goal 8:58 into the third period, halting Carolina’s four-game win streak.
