Late touchdown pass decides 93rd East-West Shrine Game

Texas Tech quarterbac­k Nic Shimonek threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Houston wide receiver Steven Dunbar with 1:23 left to give the West a 14-10 victory in the 93rd EastWest Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Wisconsin safety Natrell Jamerson returned a fumble by Ohio State quarterbac­k J.T. Barrett 68 yards for the West’s other TD in the nation’s longest running college all-star game.

■ Tennessee State: Four bowl subdivisio­n transfers — Alabama linebacker Mekhi Brown, Minnesota quarterbac­k Demry Croft, Illinois linebacker Christion Abercrombi­e and Connecticu­t cornerback John Robinson IV — joined the Tigers and are eligible to participat­e in spring practice this year.

■ NFLPA Collegiate Bowl: At Pasadena, Calif., Louisiana State defensive tackle Frank Herron returned a fumble for a touchdown for the National team, which held the American team to 215 yards of offense in a 23-0 win — the Nationals’ seventh victory in as many games.

■ Washington State: Coach Mike Leach said there were no outward signs that would have alarmed coaches or teammates before Tyler Hilinski, the Cougars’ presumptiv­e starting quarterbac­k next season, took his own life Tuesday.

■ Alabama: The Crimson Tide and tens of thousands of fans celebrated their fifth national title in nine years with a parade in Tuscaloosa that extended to the north steps of Bryant-Denny Stadium.
