‘Disgusting’ Duke can’t top St. John’s

Storm end 11-game skid; Coach K livid

NEW YORK — That’s two losses in three games for No. 4 Duke — and this one to a team that hadn’t won since Christmas.

No wonder coach Mike Krzyzewski called it a “disgusting” effort.

Shamorie Ponds scored 33 points as St. John’s stunned the Blue Devils 81-77 on Saturday, snapping an 11-game skid and handing Duke (19-4) its second loss in eight days.

Bashir Ahmed had 19 points and Tariq Owens 17 for the Red Storm (11-13), who overcame an early 10-point deficit in their biggest win under third-year coach Chris Mullin. “We would have taken a win if it was in an empty gym,” Mullin said.

■ No. 3 Purdue 78, Rutgers 76 —

At Piscataway, N.J., Vincent Edwards had 18 points for the Boilermake­rs (23-2, 12-0 Big Ten), who won their school-record 19th straight. Corey Sanders scored 31 points for the Scarlet Knights (12-13, 2-10).

■ No. 5 Michigan State 63, Indiana 60 — At Bloomingto­n, Ind., Matt McQuaid hit the decisive 3-pointer with 1:08 left for the Spartans (22-3, 10-2 Big Ten). Juwan Morgan had 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Hoosiers (12-12, 5-7).

■ No. 6 Xavier 96, Georgetown 91, OT — At Cincinnati, Trevon Bluiett had 31 points, with a four-point play that tied it late in regulation, for the Musketeers (21-3, 9-2 Big East), who never trailed in overtime. The Hoyas (13-9, 3-8) have lost five of six.

■ Oklahoma State 84, No. 7 Kansas 79 — At Lawrence, Kan., Kendall Smith scored 24 points, including the clinching free throws, for the Cowboys (14-9, 4-6 Big 12). The Jayhawks (18-5, 7-3) have three home losses, their most since 1998-99.

■ Washington 78, No. 9 Arizona 75— At Seattle, Dominic Green collected a loose ball and made a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the Huskies (17-6, 7-3 Pac-12). Allonzo Trier scored 17 of his 20 points in the second half for the Wildcats (19-5, 9-2).

■ Texas 79, No. 12 Oklahoma 74

— At Austin, Texas, Matt Coleman scored 22 points for the Longhorns (15-8, 5-5 Big 12). Trae Young, averaging 30.3 points, had 19 on 7-for-22 shooting for the Sooners (16-6, 6-4).

■ No. 13 Saint Mary’s 65, San Diego 62 — At San Diego, Jock Landale had 34 points and 18 rebounds for the Gaels (23-2, 12-0 West Coast Conference), who didn’t trail the Toreros (15-9, 6-6) in their 18th straight win.

■ No. 14 Gonzaga 68, Brigham Young 60 — At Spokane, Wash., Rui Hachimura had 15 points for the Bulldogs (21-4, 11-1 WCC), who had lost to the Cougars (18-7, 7-5) at

— At Gainesvill­e, Fla., Donta Hall had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Crimson Tide (15-8, 6-4 SEC), who rallied from a 10-point deficit to hand the Gators (15-8, 6-4) their third straight league loss.

■ No. 24 Michigan 76, Minnesota 73, OT — At Ann Arbor, Mich., Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman made a tiebreakin­g three-point play with 3.8 seconds left in overtime and totaled 17 points for the Wolverines (19-6, 8-4 Big Ten). Freshman Isaiah Washington scored 26 points for the Golden Gophers (14-11, 3-9).

68— At San Jose, Calif., Antino Jackson had 17 points for the Lobos (12-12, 7-4), who went ahead to stay with 3:50 left. Ryan Welage had 22 points for the Spartans (3-19, 0-11).

■ Fresno State 80, Wyoming 62

— At Laramie, Wyo., Nate Grimes had 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs (16-8, 6-5), who routed the Cowboys (15-8, 6-4) in their most decisive victory in a league road game.

■ UNR 76, Colorado State 67 —

At Fort Collins, Colo., Caleb Martin scored 26 points for the Wolf Pack (20-4, 9-1), who made 26 of 32 free throws and handed the Rams (10-15, 3-9) their sixth straight loss.

■ San Diego State 81, Air Force 50— At San Diego, Jalen McDaniels had 16 points for the Aztecs (13-8, 5-5), who held the Falcons (8-13, 2-7) to 32.8-percent shooting.
