John Anders Svenson passed away January 26, 2018, at his home in Henderson, of a heart attack, at age 75. John was born December 9, 1942, in Worcester, Massachusetts, the son of the late Dr. Sven O. Svenson and Edahjane C. Svenson. John spent some of the World War II years in Austin, Texas living with his mother and his grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Charles W. Castner, while his father served as a U.S. Navy officer in the Pacific. After the war, John grew up in Worcester and graduated from Worcester North High School. John was a proud graduate of Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont. After graduation, he took some graduate courses in biology before entering the business world as a management consultant with Wells Management in New York City. He later moved with Wells to Los Angeles, where in 1984, he served as a senior officer with the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, working with major Olympic sports associations and venues, as well as going to China to secure the first Chinese participation in recent Olympic Games. After the Olympics, John founded a sports consulting business working with various sports groups and especially the world of golf, a life-long passion. This passion led him to work and partner with Percise, Gripos and AME in the sports equipment business with particular focus on precision grips for golf clubs, bicycles, motorcycles and other activities. When this company moved from California to the Las Vegas area, John became a resident of Henderson. John, never having children of his own, adored his nephews and nieces. He is survived by his brother, Charles, his wife Sally, of New York City, and their children, Alicia L. Svenson, her husband, Dr. Matthew B. Friese of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, and Tait O. Svenson, his wife, Lindsay V. Svenson, and their sons, Mason T. Svenson and Porter O. Svenson of Walnut Creek, California. John is also survived by his niece, Tracie S. McWade of Milford Massachusetts, the daughter of John’ s late brother, Orlin S. Svenson. John is also survived by his legion of friends who enjoyed his love of life and spirit of joy. He will be missed by family, friends and all who knew or worked with him. Celebration of John’s life will be Saturday, February 10, at Wildhorse Golf Club, in Henderson.
