Arizona’s Miller sits out after FBI wiretap report

-

Arizona’s Sean Miller did not coach against Oregon on Saturday, a day after ESPN reported through anonymous sources that he was heard on an FBI wiretap discussing a $100,000 payment to Wildcats freshman Deandre Ayton.

Ayton remained eligible and had 28 points and 18 rebounds in No. 14 Arizona’s 98-93 overtime loss to the Ducks in Eugene, Oregon. Associate head coach Lorenzo Romar led the Wildcats (22-7, 12-4 Pac-12) in place of Miller.

Arizona also was without preseason All-America guard Allonzo Trier, a Findlay Prep product, who tested positive for the same banned substance that cost him 19 games last season.

The school did not specify why Miller didn’t coach against Oregon (19-10, 9-7) or if he will sit out any other games.

Shaquille O’Neal’s son, Shareef, one of the nation’s top high school recruits who previously committed to Arizona, announced Saturday on Twitter that he is opening up his recruitment, citing the problems with the Wildcats.
