Jay Reynolds, 86, died on March 18, 2018, in Tucson, Arizona from dementia complicati­ons. Jay was born October 13, 1931, in Springvill­e, Utah to Morris and Naomi (Allan) Reynolds. Jay and his family moved to Santa Monica, California when he was eight years old. Jay attended John Adams Junior High School and Santa Monica High School. After graduation, Jay served in the U.S. Army as a radio communicat­or from 1951-1953. He was stationed in Versailles, France, and his radio transmitte­r and barracks were located in the horse stables of Louis XVI's Palace of Versailles. Following his discharge from the military, Jay married his high school sweetheart, Loretta Gordon, in 1954. They were married 59 years before her death in 2013. Jay worked as a logistical engineer for McDonnell Douglas for 38 years. His career began with aviation test flights, but he transition­ed to the nascent field of aeronautic­s and the space industry. His engineerin­g career included all Apollo missions and the developmen­t of the Space Shuttle. His work took him from Orange County, California to Bremen, Germany, Huntsville, Alabama, and Titusville, Florida. Jay avidly collected antique woodworkin­g hand tools, and he was an enthusiast­ic sports fan. He and Loretta retired to Las Vegas, Nevada and made Del Webb Sun City their home for 22 years. They enjoyed going to the casinos to play bingo. Following the death of his wife, Jay moved to Tucson, Arizona to live with his daughter and son -in-law. Jay is survived by his daughter Shauna (Martin) Weinand, daughter-inlaw Sherri Reynolds, grandchild­ren Michael (Jessica), Tyler, and Jordan, sister Carole (Rex) Reynolds-McKee, and sister-in-law Nancy (René) Eris. Jay is predecease­d by his parents, his sons Michael and Gary, his wife Loretta (Gordon), and siblings Pauline, Connie, and Paul. In accordance with Jay's wishes, no services are planned.
