Nationals’ Zimmerman placed on DL with right oblique strain

The Washington Nationals placed first baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the 10-day disabled list Saturday and promoted veteran corner infielder ƒMark Reyƒnolds from Triple-A Syracuse.

A right oblique strain has hampered Zimmerman, who last played Wednesday.

Reynolds, 34, has 11 seasons of major league experience with seven teams, most recently playing 148 games for Colorado last season, when he hit .267 with 30 home runs and 97 RBIs. He played 10 games at Syracuse this year.

Reynolds gets a one-year, $1.5 million contract and could make $2 million in performanc­es bonuses based on plate appearance­s.

Zimmerman, 33, is batting .412 (7-for-17) with one home run and three RBIs in five May games. Overall this season, he is hitting .217 with five homers and 16 RBIs.

■ Rays: First baseman/left-handed pitcher Brendan McKay, drafted fourth overall last year, will be promoted Monday from Low-A Bowling Green to High-A Charlotte. He was batting .254 with 16 RBIs through 21 games and was 2-0 with a 1.09 ERA.

■ Brewers: Alec Asher’s contract was purchased from Colorado Springs, fellow righthande­d reliever Jacob Barnes was optioned to the Triple-A club, and left-hander Wade Miley (right oblique strain) was transferre­d to the 60-day disabled list.

■ Tigers: Right-handed reliever Louis Coleman’s contract was purchased from Toledo, Ryan Carpenter was recalled from the Triple-A club, and fellow left-handed reliever Chad Bell was designated for assignment.

■ Angels: Right-hander Nick Tropeano (right shoulder inflammati­on) was activated from the disabled list, and right-handed reliever Akeel Morris was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake.

■ Blue Jays: Third baseman/shortstop Gio Urshela, acquired Wednesday from Cleveland, was added to Toronto’s roster, and outfielder Dalton Pompey was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo.

■ Indians: Outfielder Tyler Naquin (left hamstring strain) was placed on the 10-day disabled list, and left-handed reliever Tyler Olson was reinstated from paternity leave.

■ Dodgers: Ambidextro­us reliever Pat Venditte was recalled from Oklahoma City, and right-hander Brock Stewart was optioned to the Triple-A club.

■ Padres: Utility player Cory Spangenber­g was recalled from Triple-A El Paso, and third baseman Chase Headley was designated for assignment.
