Indians reliever Miller returns to DL with knee inflammation
Cleveland Indians reliever Andrew Miller is back on the 10-day disabled list, this time with inflammation in his right knee, and the lefthander’s return has no timetable.
The Indians recalled Ben Taylor and
Evan Marshall from Triple-A Columbus and designated fellow right-handed reliever Oliver Drake for assignment.
Miller, 33, was on the DL from April 26 to May 11 with a left hamstring strain. He began the season with 10 consecutive scoreless innings but is 0-3 with a 14.55 ERA in six games since being activated. Miller also has been dealing with a sore back.
■ Cubs: Right-hander Yu Darvish (right triceps tendinitis) was placed on the 10-day disabled list, catcher Chris Gimenez’s contract was purchased from Iowa, left-handed reliever Randy Rosario was recalled from the Triple-A club, catcher/first baseman Victor Caratini was optioned to Iowa, and first baseman/outfielder Efren Navarro, a UNLV product, was designated for assignment.
■ Cardinals: Right-handed reliever Greg Holland (right hip impingement) was placed on the 10-day disabled list, left-handed reliever Tyler Lyons (back strain) and catcher Carson Kelly (right hamstring strain) were activated from the DL, and catcher Steve Baron was optioned to Triple-A Memphis.
■ Angels: Catcher Rene Rivera had surgery Friday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and likely will be sidelined four to six weeks, manager Mike Scioscia said. Also, righthander Jaime Barria was recalled from Salt Lake, and outfielder Michael Hermosillo was optioned to the Triple-A club.
■ Athletics: Santiago Casilla (right shoulder strain) was placed on the 10-day disabled list, fellow right-handed reliever Josh Lucas was optioned to Nashville, and right-hander Chris Bassitt and right-handed reliever Carlos Ramirez were recalled from the Triple-A club.
■ Yankees: First baseman Greg Bird, who had right ankle surgery on March 27, was activated from the disabled list, and utility infielder Ronald Torreyes was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
■ Diamondbacks: Right-hander Shelby Miller (Tommy John surgery), who has pitched in three extended spring training games, is to make his first rehabilitation start Tuesday with Class-A Visalia.
■ Pirates: Center fielder Starling Marte (oblique strain) was activated from the disabled list, and outfielder/first baseman Jose Osuna was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis.
■ Marlins: Third baseman Martin Prado (left hamstring strain) was placed on the 10-day disabled list, and shortstop J.T. Riddle was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans.
■ Orioles: Closer Zach Britton (right Achilles tendon surgery), who has yet to pitch this season, is to start a rehabilitation assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Norfolk.
■ Rays: Outfielder Carlos Gomez (right groin strain) was activated from the disabled list, and left-hander Anthony Banda was optioned to Triple-A Durham.
■ Rockies: Ryan McMahon was recalled from Albuquerque, and fellow infielder Pat Valaika was optioned to the Triple-A club. Review-Journal wire services
