Third time falling behind dooms 51s

Mike Marjama and Zach Vincej homered in a goahead sixth inning as the Tacoma Rainiers beat the 51s 11-5 in a Pacific Coast League game Saturday night at Cashman Field.

Marjama took Las Vegas starter Cody Martin (0-1) deep for a two-run blast to snap a 3-all tie, and one out later, Vincej added a solo shot. Marjama’s homer was his third of the season, while Vincej’s was his fifth.

The 51s, who had battled back from deficits twice earlier, never caught up after that.

Las Vegas (20-30) cut the lead to 6-5 in the seventh inning with a pair of runs on Christian Colon’s run-scoring triple and a sacrifice fly by Kevin Kaczmarski, but Matt den Dekker was stranded at third base to end the inning.

Update

Las Vegan Andrew Church will make his first start at Cashman Field on Sunday after being swapped in the rotation with P.J. Conlon. Conlon is now scheduled to pitch Monday, but the Mets could call him up for their doubleheader that day. Church was a secondround draft pick in 2013 out of Basic High School.
