Packers QB Rodgers may seek opt-out clause in next contract
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is expected to sign a record-setting contract in the near future, but the two time NFL MVP and six-time Pro Bowl selection might want more than just top dollar.
Rodgers, 34, could seek an opt-out clause in his next deal to prevent a recurrence of his current status after seeing a number of quarterbacks eclipse the five-year, $110 million extension he signed in 2013, NFL Network reported.
■ Quarterback Tom Brady, who did not attend organized team activities, has appeared at Gillette Stadium “on a semiregular basis” to work out with wide receiver Julian Edelman, NBC Sports Boston reported.
■ Offensive tackle Mike Adams, a second-round draft pick in 2012 who was out of football last year, recently lost 68 pounds, going from 323 to 255, in hopes of making a comeback as a tight end.
■ Running back Kenneth Dixon, who missed all of last season after suffering a medial meniscus tear in his left knee during training camp, proclaimed himself ready for training camp.
■ Free-agent wide receiver Dez Bryant, released April 13, is not expected to sign with a new team until training camps start, NFL Network reported.
■ Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Johnny Manziel was 9 of 12 passing for 80 yards and was flagged for intentional grounding Friday in his Canadian league exhibition debut.
