William “Fred” Jackson passed away June 24, 2018, in Las Vegas, He was born February 14, 1937, in Carthage Junction, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Carl and Marvenine Petty Jackson; and brother, Gene. He is survived by his siblings, Larry of Gainsville, Virginia, Linda Brannack of Hickory, North Carolina, David of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Michael of Tucson, Arizona; and his life partner, of 55 years, William Shettler. They were married August 29, 2008. Fred graduated from Donnelson High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Navy in the 50’s on the USS Piedmont and the USS Prairie, both repair ships, where he served as a Patte rn/Model Maker creating precision models for metal castings. After leaving the Navy, he continued in the same work building ship hull models for wind and wave testing and later did aerospace supersonic models for testing in wind tunnels. He was an accomplish­ed wood carver and builder of fine furniture. He had a passion for travel subsequent­ly visiting over 100 countries. His travels included the unusual such as Borneo, Sri Lanka, New Guinea, Tibet, Kuala Lumpur and the Marquesae Islands. He made five trips to the African Continent. His travels included all 50 states, most state captials, national parks and historical sites. He was retired for 21 years and had good health for most of it. His final wish was to have his ashes scattered at sea. A celebratio­n of life dinner will be held at a later date.
