Unlikely Swede takes one-shot Scottish lead
GULLANE, Scotland — Jens Dantorp, a Swede with just one top-10 finish in 61 starts on the European Tour, birdied his final three holes to take the lead at 13-under 197 after a 2-under 68 in the third round of the Scottish Open.
Matt Fitzpatrick (64), Ryan Fox (63), Marcel Siem (65) and Scott Hend (63) were all among the earlier starters — playing before the wind really started GOLF to pick up — and reached 12 under. They were joined by Alexander Bjork (67) and Rickie Fowler (66), who drove 458 yards downwind on the 471-yard par-4 10th hole.
Overnight leader Robert Rock struggled to a 76 and is six shots back in the tuneup for next week’s British Open.
■ PGA: At Silvis, Ill., Michael Kim took a five-shot lead at the John Deere Classic in a third round delayed twice because of bad weather and concerns over lightning.
Kim closed with four straight birdies and shot a 7-under 64 for a total of 22-under 191. Bronson Burgoon (66) is in second at 17 under, and Matt Jones (66) is another shot back.
■ Champions: At Highland Park, Ill., defending champion Scott McCarron and Bart Bryant shot matching 7-under 65s to move into a share of the lead with Jeff Maggert (66) at 16-under 200 at the Constellation Senior Players Championship.
Vijay Singh (66) was alone in second, one shot back in the fourth of five majors on the PGA Tour Champions schedule.
■ Senior Women’s Open: At Wheaton, Ill., Laura Davies made six birdies and a 60-foot eagle putt to shoot a women’s course-record 7-under 66 at Chicago Golf Club and earn a five-shot lead at 11-under 208 in the first U.S. Senior Women’s Open.
■ LPGA: At Sylvania, Ohio, Brooke Henderson birdied the 17th hole to take a one-stroke lead at the Marathon Classic. She shot a 2-under 69 and is at 11-under 202. Angela Stanford (65) and Brittany Lincicome (67) are one stroke behind.
■ Celebrity event: At South Lake Tahoe, San Jose Sharks captain Joe Pavelski held off a charge from three-time defending champion Mark Mulder to maintain a one-point lead with 48 points after the second round of the American Century Championship, which uses the modified Stableford scoring system. Pavelski had 23 points Saturday, and Mulder had 31.
