James “Jim” Donald Barger, 80, of Las Vegas, passed away, Tuesday, July 10, 2018. Jim was born January 20, 1938, in Champaign, Illinois. He attended Champaign Central High School, where he received a record setting nine “letters” for his performanc­e in football, basketball and baseball. Jim was named “Outstandin­g Athlete of the Year,” during his senior year and was later inducted into the Champaign Central High School Sports Hall of Fame. In addition to emerging as a heralded athlete, Jim met the love of his life and wife, of 60 years, Judith Ann Dalton "Judy" during this time. After high school, Jim attended the University of Illinois, where he was granted a football scholarshi­p and later Eastern Illinois University. He served two years in the U.S. Army before beginning a career in finance. Jim married Judy in 1957 and together they moved to Crete, Illinois, where they raised their three children. Jim acted as President and CEO of Illiana Financial Credit Union for 34 years. During this time, he was named “Illinois Credit Union Executive of the Year” three times. Jim served on the Illinois Credit Union League Board of Directors for four years. In 1998, Jim and Judy moved to Las Vegas, where Jim continued an avid golfing hobby, receiving regular recognitio­n for his performanc­e and eventually “shooting his age.” Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Barger; and his sons, Joe Barger and Jeff Barger. He is survived by his daughter, Jami Newman; his granddaugh­ter, Carly Lockman; greatgrand­daughter, Vivienne Lockman; great-grandson, Jude Lockman; and brother, Robert Barger. No services are scheduled. Memorial donations can be made to Cardinals Care, a nonprofit created by the St. Louis Cardinals to provide baseball leagues, fields and equipment to underprivi­leged children.
