Volcano claims company

HILO, Hawaii — A Hilo-based tour company has announced it’s closing because of the decline in tourism on the Big Island after the Kilauea eruption.

Jack’s Tours announced on its website this past week that its last day would be Tuesday.

The company said that the downturn in tourism has left it unable to continue operations, especially with no foreseeable improvement in the near future.

The company has been offering half-day volcano tours on the island for more than 50 years.
