Air Force DB Kim first openly gay player at military academy

Air Force defensive back Bradley Kim is the first openly gay football player to play for a military academy.

The sophomore announced his sexual orientatio­n Friday to teammates, on social media and in an OutSports article. Kim said he is confident enough in himself to say he is gay and hopes to be an example to people who fear they won’t be accepted.

■ San Francisco coach Kyle Smith signed a multiyear contract extension after guiding the Dons to back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since the early 1980s. Athletic director Scott Sidwell did not disclose the contract’s length or financial terms.
