Also by his mother Violet and sister Doreen. Syd Proudly Served 2 years in the US ARMY and was awarded The Bronze Star and A Purple Heart while serving on the front lines as a Sergeant Infantry Division in Vietnam in 1968. At only 21 Syd became the youngest Radiology Department Head on the West Coast. Syd had away of seeing the future and making it a reality when it came to diagnostic medicine and where it was going. Transforming Mission Viejo Hospital from a small Radiology Department into the Top Trauma Facility in Southern California. Bringing the 1st MRI to Las Vegas. And then as he referred to it… a once in a lifetime opportunity… St. Rose Hospitals asked him to design and staff and run all of their Hospitals Diagnostic Services in Las Vegas. And he did just that at St Rose Siena Hospital… Including recruiting and bring to the Las Vegas Valley many of the Medical Specialist we enjoy today. And eventually opened Las Vegas’s 1st Open Heart Surgery and St. Rose Martin Hospital before retiring in 2008. Syd also served on the American Heart Association’s Board of Directors. In no small part the Las Vegas Valley owes Syd for facilitating our Health Care Services to what we have today. After Retiring Syd enjoyed traveling with his Best Friend and Soulmate, Elaine in their travel trailer and going fishing. They also enjoyed taking Cruises, going to the movies together and basically doing anything together. A kind gentle loving man who liked to laugh and enjoyed life. Syd was admired and loved by many and will be greatly missed.
